If you’ve forgotten your password or are locked out of your account, follow the steps below to reset it yourself using Microsoft’s secure Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) tool.
Step 1: Open the Password Reset Page
- On any device (phone, tablet, or computer), open your internet browser.
- Go to: Microsoft Online Password Reset
- You’ll see the “Get back into your account” page.
Step 2: Enter Your Work Email Address
- In the field that says “Email or Username”, type your full work email address
- In the next field, type the characters shown in the CAPTCHA box (to prove you’re not a robot).
- Click Next.
Step 3: Verify Your Identity – Step 1
You’ll now need to verify your identity using one of your registered security methods.
You may see options such as:

Text my mobile phone

Call my mobile phone
-
Approve a notification on my authenticator app
- Enter a code from my authenticator app
Choose one method and follow the instructions:

If you choose text, enter the code you receive by SMS
Step 4: Verify Your Identity – Step 2 (if prompted)
If your organization requires two-factor verification, you’ll now be asked to complete a second method, such as:

Enter a code from your Microsoft Authenticator app
Open your Authenticator app and enter the code shown.
Click Next to proceed.
Step 5: Create a New Password
Once your identity is confirmed:
- You’ll be prompted to enter a new password.
- Type your new password and then confirm it in the second field.
- Click Finish.
Your password should:
- Be at least 8 characters long
- Include a mix of upper/lowercase letters, numbers, or symbols
- Avoid common words or names
Step 6: Sign In With Your New Password
Now that you’ve reset it:
- Go back to office.com or your work computer login screen.
- Sign in using your email address and new password.
